About us

Once upon a time an idea grew

Two Mums decided there had to be a way to treat their family, clothe them well and spoil them a little without out using all the beans in the bank.

They searched for discounts. They found bargains galore and soon their families were thriving and happy… and so was their bank balance.

Hi, we’re Eula and Teena, the Directors of Magic Beans Card, a membership discount card for expectant Mums and parents of 0-5 year olds.
Between us we have five children ranging in age from two to seven. We got together because we both love to shop, but getting by in a single-income house can be tough. Both of us invest a lot of time and money in our children and we wanted to find great deals so we’d stress less and the time we spent with our children would be even more valuable. So we hunted for the biggest deals we could – giant deals – so we could save money for our families and then spill the beans to you so you could do the same. And that’s how the Magic Beans Card seed was planted.

How it all works
The Magic Beans Card has teamed with a network of retailers who parents visit regularly for clothes, toys, books, health products and even furniture for their kids. We keep adding to the list so make sure you check our directory before you shop!

Now more than ever the Magic Beans Card should be the one card you keep in your wallet. It pays for itself in no time. That’s a big deal when petrol’s more valuable than a golden-egg-laying goose and we all have days when we think we’re turning into Old Mother Hubbard.

Your Magic Beans Card gives you more beans in your bank to spend on fun outings with your family, the bare necessities, or to save and make your family’s future more certain.

Show your card when you shop at Magic Bean Retailers to reap your rewards and keep coming back here for deals, info and special offers.

The people who grew the beans

Eula Farnsworth
I started life in Wellington before being bitten by the travel bug. I ventured to distant lands like Asia, Africa and Europe before making a home in London, meeting my prince and working for a top fashion company as a Finance/Accounts Manager.
When I had my first daughter, Lara (6), I returned to NZ with my family to rediscover the clean, green lifestyle we Kiwis love. After a year working in Real Estate the family grew with the birth of Zoe (2) so I put paid work on hold in favour of family time (and 24/7 unpaid work!)
It didn’t take long for me to notice that my spending power in NZ was not as good as I was used to overseas – even before stepping out of the rat-race. The solution? The Magic Beans Card!

Teena Harris
Before leaping from the corporate ladder to the Magic Beanstalk I lived in the world of direct marketing. For 10 years I worked for a wine marketing company before transferring my skills to London where I worked for a direct marketing agency. I was also surrounded by the magic wine potion when I worked for Oddbins.
Then along came the little folk (no result of the magic potion, I can assure you). First Sam (7) arrived, then Sally (5), and Molly (2) followed to complete the trio. We fitted a move back to New Zealand in there somewhere and I became involved in local parents’ committees and groups.
I noticed that other parents were juggling financial commitments and thought “wouldn’t it be great if parents could get a bit of help?” It is expensive to feed and clothe wee ones so I’m thrilled that the Magic Beans Card can make a difference.

If there’s anything you’d like to see here, or a retailer you’d like to see become part of the Magic Beans story please drop us a line. Either go to our contact page or email Teena  or Eula  directly.
